In honor of the year 2022, I’m looking at the following verse:

And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

 John 20:22

To get the context of the verse, let’s take a look at what’s going on.

Jesus just returned from the dead and appeared to His disciples who have been hiding in fear.

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

John 20:19-21

The Holy Spirit which Jesus mentioned in verse 22 was part of an earlier promise that He would send to them after He returned to Heaven. The Holy Spirit would be essential as the disciples traveled through the lands spreading the teachings of Jesus and of His salvation to us from sin and eternal death.

What a beautiful gift!

For believers, the Holy Spirit acts as our guide, provides us with wisdom, strength, and courage. This same Holy Spirit offers us comfort and is our guiding light in the darkest of times. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to love others and discern things that are of the devil.

“It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, God’s job to judge and my job to love.”

Billy Graham

  1. We really need the Holy Ghost,
we really need him in these days,
’cause I think these times are the worst
I can recall, in many ways.
    There’s a Supreme Court Justice
who can’t say what a woman is,
and if you think that is a mess,
then take a look at show biz
where Disney’s gone and lost its mind
to where it’s now a joke
    that has become completely blind
    to anything but Woke,
and thus the former Magic Kingdom
is what I’ll lead my dear kids from.
