Aliens? Or Something Else? (Part One)

I’ve debated whether to get involved in the current ongoing conversation about the existence of UFOs and aliens. When Steven Spielberg mentioned in various interviews that his movie might cause some to question or even lose their faith if they watch the film, I decided that I need to add my voice to the mix.

There was a time when I believed that there was other life in the universe, that there were aliens, other species that inhabited other worlds, other lifeforms who possess greater technology than our own, and that these beings have visited our planet many times throughout our history.

There was a time, after I had turned my back on God, when I believed in the whole theory about the ancient astronauts, in that there were other far more advanced lifeforms that may have been responsible for our being here on this planet.

I wanted answers to my questions and curiosity about the past that didn’t involve God. I was fascinated by the whole concept about other life in the universe, and that we weren’t alone. I wanted all of the above to be true.

As a human, I wanted to believe in other explanations for our existence, our purpose that didn’t include God. I also tried to fit the stories of the Bible into what we, as humans, know about the past — and none of it made much sense. Most of the pieces of the puzzles wouldn’t fit together.

There was something missing. Something that tied everything together. And for a long time, I did not, I refused to acknowledge what this “missing link” was.

My near-fatal heart attack was a pivotal event that changed everything. An event that forced me to look beyond myself, beyond this world and universe.

Where did this lead me?

To God.

As I was in the throes of excruciating chest pains, my only focus was God. Not these aliens or other lifeforms — they didn’t even enter my thoughts. I knew that death was right there, and that I might be crossing that threshold to whatever lied beyond this life… and I just knew, there are no other words to explain it, but I just had this knowing that God was the “missing link.”

It wasn’t the aliens or whatever lifeforms that have been documented by the military and government. It’s God, and God alone.

This changed how I viewed anything and everything.

Now, do aliens and UFOs exist?

These are definitely lifeforms, but they are not like the aliens that have been portrayed in movies. Even in Spielberg’s newest film.

The Bible has many passages that tell of these other lifeforms’ existence. And that they are very involved with everything that has occurred and is occurring in our world. But, if you don’t look at them through the lens of the Bible, you will miss the truth of everything.

Majority of the world won’t. Or refused to like I once did.

Why? It means they will have to openly admit to the existence of a Creator. Of a single uncreated Being responsible for creating this universe, this planet, and us — mankind.

But it goes much, much deeper than that. There are so many layers and complexities to all things, it is impossible to even fathom the truth of everything.

As humans, our mortal minds do not have the ability to see the immense scope of the mysteries of our world, and our universe.

There are too many “missing” pieces of our past, the past of this world. Even for Christians there are many things we cannot explain to those who demand physical and scientific evidence, and they are not interested in what the Bible has to say.

They want the truth that does not include God.

What will they get instead?

Answers that are incomplete, distorted or perverted.

The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions. — Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT

This passage basically tells us that it is God who chooses what to reveal to us, and that what He reveals are meant for our instruction and the instruction of future generations. We are to trust God for the things we don’t understand or don’t have the evidence for.

And for those who do not believe in a Creator, this will be impossible for them to do. They will, instead continue to search for the answers that fit their views and belief systems. Unfortunately, on their own, they will never be able to put all the pieces together into a coherent and complete puzzle.

This is where the aliens and UFOS come in — these will be their “missing link.”

Christians aren’t exempt from believing there are other life in the universe. Many, like I did, mistakenly try to explain the unknown through the lens of science, history and philosophy. If the science, history and philosophy exclude God, the answers we’ll find won’t be the whole truth.

So, do I still believe there are aliens, other life in the universe?
