FMF: Result #Christianity #ChristianLife #Deconstruct #FMFParty

FMF stands for Five Minutes Friday (each Friday morning you’ll receive a prompt word, spend five minutes freewriting the first thing to come to mind, then link your post for others in the FMF community to read and comment)

I recently authored an article (published with Koinonia on Medium) that asked if there is such a thing called ex-Christians. I answered in the end – YES, there is such a thing.

What?

Yes, you can call yourself an ex-Christian if you decide to walk away from Christianity…

However, we should remember (and realize) that – –

Christianity is much more than just attending church service each week and doing all sorts of good works. It’s more than professing you’re a Christian who tries to live a good life. No, Christianity is all about relationship – our relationship with Him. And like relationships, it takes time to build and grow in trust and faith.

How can you tell who’s truly a Christian?

A true Christian is inhabited by the Holy Spirit, and as we learn and grow, we begin to produce what’s called the fruit of the Holy Spirit through our action and communication. Through these, the world will know we are truly followers of Jesus Christ.

But being a Christian can be hard. It’s a journey of faith. A journey of perseverance.

Life in this world can be challenging and difficult – filled with pain, loss, and discord. These can cause Christians to begin to doubt the validity of Christianity.  Some will even turn away and call themselves ex-Christian because they no longer believe in Jesus.

But does this mean they’re truly an ex-Christian?  Can true Christians renounce their faith and turn their backs on God completely?

Yes.

However, A true Christian who’s been indwelled by the Holy Spirit can never truly walk away. No matter how hard they try, they will always sense His Presence.

I was one of them. I am so grateful that He opened (or was it reopened?) the eyes of my heart!

(NOTE: I plan to write more on this!)
