It’s funny that this should be the prompt for this week’s FMF group. I just finished writing a longish essay about Christians and asking do our opinions matter and whether or not they need to be based solely on facts for them to have any merit.
It seems that society as a whole (especially among Progressive Christians) isn’t the least bit interested in hearing the opinion of any conservative Christian. They say that a conservative’s opinion is merely based on feelings and not on verifiable fact. And if by some miracle it is, then that fact must be antiquated or no longer culturally acceptable.
It must be confusing (and perhaps even amusing) to the unbelievers as they watch Christians squabble among themselves, not agreeing on fundamental and cornerstone issues of our faith. We are seeing the rise of many false gospels that have led countless astray from the Truth.
As Christians, we should be looking to God’s Word as proof behind our “opinion.” This too is where things get murky as many are taking certain scripture passages out of context to fit their ideology. Their own form of the truth.
What a mess.

We should always look first and foremost to Scripture as our guide! And we’d be wise to consider that there may be differing but valid opinions on how to interpret and apply Scripture, but that Scripture will never contradict itself. I agree that among Christians, we should be doing better at being loving and respectful even when we do have doctrinal differences!

Don’t know what a progressive is,
and I do not wanna try
to drink in all their champagne fizz
that leaves life parched and dry,
cut off from the living water
by calling Scripture a buffet
from which we take just what we oughter
as specified by those today
who think the Bible’s out of style
when it speaks of deadly sin;
we just should wear a happy smile
and consign to rubbish bin
any verses that do not
square with our Hipster Camelot.

This is a very poignant article with a significant message. You did a wonderful job with the breakdown, defining terms and scenarios. Sad but true bias gets in the way for many. As Christians checking the soundness with Scripture is a must.
