Let’s start by looking at the word “Christianity.” This word was originally dubbed by the Greeks, aka the Gentiles.
And when he (Barnabas) found him (Paul), he took him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. — Acts 11:26
Before this, among the Jewish communities, Christianity was known as the Way which the disciples of Jesus taught and followed (John 14:6; Acts 9:1–2).
Thus, at its core, Christianity is centered on the Person of Jesus Christ.
Next, the most well-known verse in the world: John 3:16.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
There are four components to this verse:
The Divine motivation: God’s love for all mankind.
The Sacrifice: God gave His son, Jesus, to atone for our sin.
The Condition for Salvation: Belief in Jesus Christ.
The Ultimate result: The promise of eternal life for all believers.
John 3:16 is the best summary of Christianity, as it encapsulates the concepts of God’s love, redemption through Jesus Christ, and the path to salvation.
This is the heart of the Gospel, which is centered on the Person of Jesus Christ.
As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, Jesus Himself has commanded us to spread the message of the Gospel to everyone.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” — Matthew 28:19 -20
The essence of Christianity is a life transformed by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, characterized by a commitment to God’s grace through faith in His death and resurrection, a life of repentance and obedience.
As believers, we are called to love and serve God, love and serve others, live a life that reflects Christ’s example, and share the Gospel message of Jesus with all nations.
This is true Christianity. The rest are counterfeits.
