I’m a mother of a twenty-two-year-old son, Scott, who will be embarking on a new journey of his own beginning next week. He’ll be leaving for Navy boot camp.
This Momma is proud of him, but can’t help but to feel pangs of sorrow as hubby and I will transition as ‘empty nesters.”
I knew this day would eventually come, but tried as I might to prepare myself, there is no such thing! 😊 I have mixed feelings ranging between “yes, I’m ready for him to be out on his own” to “oh, I’m so not ready for this!”
I’ve been praying for the Lord to protect his heart and his mind, and I pray that Scott will keep God front and center in his life no matter where the road leads him. My comfort is knowing he is a child of God and has chosen to be baptized this past Easter.
In my heart, no matter what happens, I know he will always be a part of my life, whether here or in the next age.
I pray that he will allow the Holy Spirit to guide him and include Him in all his decisions and choices.
I know he will make mistakes and poor choices — but don’t we all?
I know he will face challenges and trials that will test his faith — I pray that in those times he will choose to lean heavily on the Lord rather than his own strength and wisdom.
He’ll be leaving the protection and shelter that’s been his home and heading out into a world that’s chaotic and can be destructive to one’s mind and heart.
As a mother, all I can do is pray.
PRAYER
LORD, I PRAY FOR YOUR protection over my son. I pray that he will put his trust in You as his Shield and Protector (Proverbs 30:5). Protect him physically from all accidents, diseases, infirmity, acts of violence by others, sudden dangers, and the plans of evil. Be his protector whenever he is in a car, plane, bus, boat, or any other means of transportation. Wherever he walks, I pray that his feet do not slip; lead him far away from danger (Psalm 17:5). Always keep him safe.
I pray that You will keep Your eyes on him and that he will not take his eyes off You. Help him to learn to dwell in Your shadow and under Your umbrella of protection (Psalm 91:1). I pray that You will be his “refuge and strength” and his “very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). I pray that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Be merciful to him and give him safety “in the shadow of Your wings” until such time as all “these calamities have passed by” (Psalm 57:1). Give him wisdom, discernment, and revelation he needs to stay safe and not fall into danger.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
