Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. — Jonah 2:8 ESV
The things and pleasures of the world will never be able to fill the relentless emptiness within you.
The world might satisfy the cravings of your body, but there is more to you than a physical body. The very essence of your being is the soul and nothing on earth can give what it needs.
Solomon, a man who had everything and done everything said this:
“I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.” — Ecclesiastes 1:14
Solomon discovered that a life without God is an unfulfilled life. To live a life only for yourself is a life without true purpose.
Without God, you carry a sense of “deadness” within you. From this, you crave fulfillment, but no pleasure or indulgence in this world can completely satisfy this need. You keep searching for that missing piece but outside of God, it’s a piece you will never find.
There is hope!
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved. — Ephesians 2:4–5
This “deadness,” this constant void we feel within can only be removed by God through His son, Jesus Christ. Through Him, we are made alive. It’s Him our soul has been longing and searching for.
With God in your life, everything you do, every gift and talent you have. now has a purpose.
Life takes on a whole new meaning. Instead of living for yourself, you live with a true purpose, you live for Him, and that is where you will find true and lasting fulfillment.
