Jesus: Prince of Peace Is Also a Warrior

Having grown up in (practically) in church and been a Christian for many years, there was something I missed in all my time in services and studies…

Jesus isn’t just a meek teacher and the savior of the world who loves all of mankind – He is also a warrior who will one day return not for peace but for war and will conquor and judge everyone who stands against Him.

Ushering in the Age of Grace

Jesus riding a donkey on Palm Sunday signifies His humble entry into Jerusalem as the Messiah, fulfilling a prophecy from Zechariah 9:9. This act symbolizes Jesus’ arrival not as a war-waging king, but as a king of peace and humility.

Ending the Age of Grace

Instead of a donkey, Jesus will return on a majestic white horse (Revelation 19:11-16) as conqueror and set up His millenial Kingdom after defeating Satan and his army of minions.

It wasn’t until very recently when it dawned on me on what these two animals truly meant. And not only that, but to fully grasp that Jesus is so much more than our savior who gave His life for us out of love and obedience, He is also a warrior who will wage war on His enemies uoon HIs second coming.

PSALM 2:6-8

“As for me, I have set my King
    on Zion, my holy hill.”

 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
    today I have begotten you.
 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
    and the ends of the earth your possession.”
