What do you think of when you hear the word “peace?”
We’re living in a time when there are so many ongoing conflicts across the globe, peace would probably mean no wars where people have discovered common grounds to co-exist peacefully.
For others, their turmoil is more internal, like dealing with depression or the inability to find something that’s fulfilling; or, perhaps their lives have been filled with heartache and pain. Peace might mean relief from these painful experiences or finally discovering a sense of purpose and personal freedom.
Unfortunately, any peace we do find in this world lasts only for a time. It’s a temporary respite from difficulties and crises. Our lives are like the sea when it’s calm for one moment and in the next, becomes a raging storm. After a while, you begin to feel weary as your hope for a true and lasting peace fade.
To have this peace that lasts, one must look beyond the things and people of this world.
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. — Isaiah 9:6
Christmas is not only a time of festivities and gift-giving, it’s also a time of reflection— to remind us that in the chaos and suffering, there is true and lasting peace that comes from knowing Jesus.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27
Jesus came to offer eternal peace and hope. — which we cannot find here on earth.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30
Only through Jesus can the world experience true peace.
“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” — Luke 2:14
This peace comes through placing our trust in Jesus as our savior. He alone can lift the heavy burden you’re carrying. Look to Him for your hope and fulfillment — the kind that lasts forever.
Dear Jesus,
I believe that you are the Prince of Peace. My life is in turmoil and I don’t know what to do or where else to turn to for relief. Help me, Jesus. I need your promise of peace in my life. I need your strength to handle this thing called life. I need you. Please, come into my life and save me! I believe in You as my savior that You’ve come to save us from sin and ourselves. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Thank you for coming into my life. Amen.
