God is…
Love. “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” — 1 John 4:16
Just. “The Rock, His work is perfect, for all His ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He.” — Deuteronomy 32:4
Holy. “For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy” — Leviticus 19:2
Merciful. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23
Gracious. “But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious; slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” — Psalm 86:15
Man is…
Created in God’s image. “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” — Genesis 1:27
Mortal. “Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.” — Psalm 144:4
A fallen creation. “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” — Romans 5:12
Seeker of self, not of God. “As it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.’” — Romans 3:10; “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy.” — 2 Timothy 3:2
A slave. “They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” 2 Peter 2:19
Jesus is…
God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” — John 1:1
Man. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” — John 1:14
Man’s Savior. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” — 1 Peter 2:24; “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” — 1 John 2:2
The only way to Heaven. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14;6
Coming back. “Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Even so. Amen.” — Revelation 1:7; “So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.” — Hebrews 9:28

If Christ had not gone to the cross and suffered in our stead, the just for the unjust, there would not have been a spark of hope for us. There would have been a mighty gulf between ourselves and God, which no man ever could have passed. — J C Ryle
