Stay Near Me – #Poetry

The pain that even words couldn’t describe,
but you, Lord, felt them all.

The emptiness within seemed so unrelenting,
but you, Lord, felt it all.

Stumbling, falling, crying on my knees,
You felt every tear.

Stay near me, Lord,
let me feel your presence.

Stay near, Lord,
guide me through this trial.

Stay near, Oh Lord, stay near me.
Stay near, Lord, stay near me.

STORY BEHIND THE POEM

March 11, 1996. A day that still remains fresh in my memory as though it happened yesterday.

I was twenty-five. I was a mess, really. A few years prior I’d learned I was slowly going blind — adding to the fact I was already hearing impaired. I’d been married for about eighteen months to Aaron — until March 11th when he died as the result of a car accident.

I thought I knew what heartache felt like — I was wrong.

It’s a pain that’s literally in the center of your chest that seemingly never goes away.

This was one of the darkest moments of my life — but, God was there. His Presence surrounded me in spirit and through the love of family and friends.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. — Matthew 5:4
