Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27 (NIV)

We’re living in a world that is searching for lasting peace.

What exactly is peace?

Most dictionaries say that peace is freedom from worry; a sense of calm in life; without war or strife.

Sounds pretty nice, huh?

Unfortunately, in all of history, there have always been wars, upheaval, famine, and diseases. It has been impossible to be 100% free from worry. We can find momentary calm, but it never lasts.

For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
. – Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

Jesus is this Prince of Peace.

Since the kind of peace we’ve been searching for can’t be attained by our own hands, you can find it in Jesus.

On April 1st of this year, I woke up to searing pain in my chest. Before I reached over to my husband for help, I prayed.

I knew He alone can give me peace of mind since I had no idea what lay ahead that day.

They discovered two blocked arteries one was known as the Widowmaker. Two stents were successfully placed, and I was released from the hospital nearly two days later.

Although I knew my chances for survival were low, I was at peace.

I can’t describe it in any other words. I knew God was in control, and if I died, I knew where I was going.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)

Are you seeking this kind of peace in your life?

Jesus calls for us, as His followers, not to worry.

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? Luke 12:25

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

As believers in Christ, we have the hope that transcends everything. And because of this hope through Jesus, we can have true and lasting peace.

What about you? Are you in search of this peace? Do you know Him? Have you invited Jesus into your heart and life?

Do you want to but are unsure of how to go about it?

Here’s a simple prayer to help you:

Dear Jesus,

I am so lost! I am afraid too.

I know that you died on the cross for my sins and I ask that you forgive my sins.

I ask that you come into my heart as my savior and save me.

I want to know this peace and hope and love that I’ve heard about. I want to experience them personally.

Thank you, Jesus for dying for me. For taking my sins, and for coming into my heart and my life.

A-men.
