Day Six: Bearing Fruit in the New Year (Prep 2022 series with Carey Green)
Day Seven: Stay Connected to Jesus in the New Year
Day Eight: Prayer Power thru Connection with Jesus
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. – John 15: 1-8
The part that resonates with me the most is:
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
We can do good works and yet none would bear lasting fruit if not done through Jesus.
I could donate money and time to charities and organizations to help people with clothes, medicines, education, housing needs, etc.; yes, while these are all good things that certainly do help people – but if we are not also ministering to their spiritual needs, these good things are only temporary.
People identify Christians by not just the kind of works they do, but by how they do these things – through sincere and genuine love. And to continue with our works in love tend to take energy – lots and lots of energy! This we cannot maintain with our own will and strength – no, this kind of energy is only available through Jesus.
In the new year, whatever goals we have set for ourselves, let us make sure Jesus is the center focus. To maintain this focus, we need to stay connected to Him through prayer and the Word. In doing so, He will give us the desires of our heart (as well as the ability to do them) which He promises to fulfill!
