Day Four – Thirsty in the new year (Prep 2022 series by Carey Green)

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.

  • Psalm 63:1-4

“God, you are my God!”

Can we honestly say this? That there is no other god before God?

I for one have to be honest in that I do fail in this occasionally – in that I’d be more focused on food (which I love!) or movies or books or even writing itself than on the Lord – putting these first before Him.

It is my intention to switch this around.

God before food or books or even writing.

I need to be intentional. Every day. Every hour.

In essence, I need to adopt a new mindset.

And it is so true – that there’s nothing that this world has to offer that could bring about the kind of satisfaction that our soul needs!

Not money, or power, or material things, not even love or adoration of others.

To seek out these earthly things will not bring us true happiness or fulfillment.

No, but to thirst for God for only He can take away any dissatisfaction that we feel and experience His love for us and His unending steadfastness for us.

So, let us seek out the Lord intentionally and prepare our hearts and minds for what He has in store for us in the coming new year!

A-men?
